Mental Health Clinician
Under the general direction of the Clinical Director and Executive Director, this position provides individual, family and group counseling services. The Clinician is responsible for providing clinical direction to YAS staff and treatment team members, maintaining a positive working relationship with team members. In addition, the Clinician is responsible for providing consultation and education to staff and treatment team members.

Master’s degree in psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, and/or closely related field. Licensed to practice in the state of Alaska or eligible for licensure within six months. Prior experience working with children and/or teenagers and their families preferred. Salary DOE.
A "Skills Trainer" is a direct services provider. At the front lines of our work, Skills Trainers build rapport, provide behavioral interventions, lead activities and teach life skills alongside the youth we serve in school, community and residential settings. Maintaining a sense of humor and fun in sometimes highly stressful environments is a must!
Under the general direction of the Program Coordinator, Skills Trainers are directly responsible for a caseload, with clients potentially ranging in age from 5 years to 21 years of age. Skills Trainers must exercise sound judgment and demonstrate effective communication skills. Skills Trainers must conduct their professional life as a socially appropriate model for YAS clients.
There are currently Skills Trainer openings in both our residential and outpatient programs.
Our residential program , Hanson House, is a level III treatment facility for male and female youth ages 10-18 in need of intensive supervised care, but who do not need detention or a lock-down facility. We provide a safe, structured and engaging home-like environment for up to 10 youth. Residential Skills Trainers are responsible for ensuring safety of the youth, building youth engagement and delivering therapeutic interventions. Staff coordinate activities and ensure that daily routines run smoothly. Full time staff usually work four 10-hour shifts per week. Shifts usually run evenings (2:00 - Midnight) and/or weekend mornings (7:00AM - 5:00PM).
Our outpatient programs include the Community Mental Health Program, which provides in-school and community supportive services for youth ages 5 to 21, the Teen Drop-in Center which offers services for youth age 14 to 21 to develop life skills in a safe and welcoming environment, and our newest program, the Employment Program, which supports youth in developing job-related skills and support in gaining access to employment and post-secondary education. Skills trainers in the outpatient program must be able to build meaningful professional relationships with children of all ages. Shifts vary with the school year and community needs.
Qualifications Preferred (not required)
Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, education, and/or closely related field is preferred.
Youth Residential Care Manager
Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, this position is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all aspects of youth residential programming, including ongoing evaluation of current practices and implementation of new policies and procedures where necessary to enhance programming in order to best meet the needs of the youth we serve.
The Youth Residential Care Manager will work closely with the Clinical Team, Case Managers, and other departments within the agency to ensure the program is in compliance with all State and Federal requirements while striving to exceed standards for best practices in the field of social and community health.
The Youth Residential Care Manager must exercise sound judgment, and consistently demonstrate the capability to use innovative problem solving and decision-making in high pressure scenarios when clients or staff become frustrated and have conflict.
Ideal candidates will possess the capacity to develop strong relationships with community partners to bring a wrap-around model of care to our youth to best support their needs; as well as the capacity to maintain a “bigger picture” view of the organization which inspires continual growth and development of youth residential programming within the agency.
A bachelor’s degree is required with a preferred specialization in child and youth care, human services, social work and education.
A minimum of three years of work experience in a related field such as social services or community health services is required, with a preference for multiple years of experience working in child and youth care programming.
