Transitional Living

The Youth Advocates of Sitka Transitional Living Program equips homeless youth and youth at risk for homelessness ages 17 through 24 years old with the skills and education necessary to become independent, productive adults.

Transitional Living Program Goals

The program’s goal is to help youth develop much-needed independent living skills in a nurturing environment that offers stability, consistency and safety, including housing for up to 18 months, case management, and supportive services.

Youth Advocates of Sitka assists youth aged 17-24 who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, in developing essential knowledge and skills in education, housing, community living, career development, and personal well-being to support their journey towards adulthood.

Youth are provided housing in a group setting and access to a Permanent Navigator who provides case mangement, demonstrates independent living skills, and facilitates mental health services. Stable, safe living accommodations, and support services help youth develop the skills necessary to establish sustainable living and well-being for themselves:

Increase the independent life skills functioning of transitioning aged youth.

Provide transitioning aged youth with access to services including: life and

interpersonal skill building, career counseling, education and degree/GED attainment,

vocational training, mental health and substance abuse counseling, independent living

skills, and medical care as appropriate.

Assist youth in fostering a sense of connection to their community.

Decrease likelihood of transitioning aged youth becoming homeless.

Assist youth in developing healthy life-long recreational activities, hobbies and interests

that promote physical, social and mental health.

Empower youth to grow into healthy, happy, and productive members of our community.
