Sitka's Cloud
The purpose of the teen center is to provide an accepting, secure, second home for the youth of Sitka to prosper while engaging in healthy activities.
Sitka's Cloud was created and continues to be run by a group of inspired Sitka teens! In the fall of 2018, a group of Pacific High students attended the Sitka Health Summit with the goal of asking for a teen center. Their dream was recognized and the group was awarded $2500 at the Health Summit to start the project. Over the next year, the student leadership expanded to include Sitka High and Mount Edgecumbe students, the group continued to organize community meetings and host events to support their dream of a teen center.
In the spring of 2019, Youth Advocates of Sitka began partnering with the teen center group to turn their dream into a reality. With the help of the Transitional Living Programs Homeless Youth Outreach grant, YAS was able to pay for a lease and staffing necessary to run a teen center. On August 24th, 2019, Sitka's Cloud opened its doors to Sitka's youth and continues to be a safe and welcoming space for youth ages 13-18 years old.
